Chorley FC Community Foundation Receives £25,000 Funding to Support Local Activities

On Saturday 13 August, the Speaker of the House of Commons and MP for Chorley, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, visited the Club to make a cheque presentation to the Chorley FC Community Foundation.

The cheque for £25,000 was received at Chorley’s opening home game against Darlington, by Darren Jenkinson (Chair of the Foundation), Ken Wright (Chorley FC Chairman), Paul Clarkson (Foundation Trustee).

Sir Lindsay Hoyle added on his Facebook page: “I’m delighted to be invited to Chorley FC to present a cheque from the National League Trust to Chorley FC Community Foundation. A massive £25,000 from the Premier League and PFA to help the Foundation continue their great work locally”.

The Foundation was established in 2019, and aims to use football as a tool to engage with local residents and promote positive social change. It provides opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in sport, regardless of financial or social circumstances. They offer both recreational and competitive programmes as well as supporting mental health and wellbeing programmes, and this grant funding will contribute to the continuation of a range of activities across the programme.

Activities such as the Sporting Memories group, (which has received acclaim for offering people living with dementia, depression, Alzheimer’s or loneliness a social setting to reminisce about memories of sport using memorabilia, physical activities, quizzes and guest speakers to generate nostalgic discussions), Walking Football, Social Inclusion football (aimed at 17-25 year old men who may be suffering with mental health difficulties exacerbated by isolation and unemployment), and an expanding school programme delivering extracurricular football to enhance health and wellbeing in young people. The Trust are proud the latest grant will help even more people in Chorley have access to sporting activities and be encouraged to lead healthier lifestyles.
