The National League Trust are proud to support Dartford FC’s Community Trust with this unique project, aimed at encouraging children in boosting their confidence by engaging with the songwriting process. The Community Trust will utilise £20,000 of National League Trust grant funding towards the songwriting programme, and Jon Rye of the Dartford FC Community Trust provides this summary of the project:
“The Dartford FC Community Trust has used the 2022 Women’s UEFA European Women’s Football Championship as the theme for our school engagement recently. In partnership with the Nathan Timothy Foundation (The Songwriting Charity) and kindly funded by the National League Trust, we have delivered 14 one-day songwriting workshops all about the 2022 Women’s Euros, with two workshops planned in June and six for September.
Our Songwriting programme has focused on:
• Empowering children and young people through the art and craft of songwriting
• Using the theme of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 competition within songwriting
• Boosting confidence, self-esteem and mental health through participation
Each one-day songwriting workshop has inspired the next generation of songwriters and storytellers to make sense of the world we live and learn in, and use the theme of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 to engage children and young people. The workshops have removed barriers to music creation and participation by making the whole process accessible for all, through the power and flexibility of music technology.
So far, the workshops have engaged 399 children (176 boys and 223 girls) from Years 3 & 4, with some incredibly positive feedback received from children and teachers, with this image particularly capturing the moment one group were completely engaged in the creative process.
